Wednesday Morning Open Thread: The GOP Gang That Couldn’t Loot Straight

In Assholes, C.R.E.A.M., Clown car, Foreign Affairs, Grifters Gonna Grift, Open Thread, Republican Stupidity, Russiagate by Anne Laurie

Why won’t the Republicans do anything to stop the foreign interference that gives them minority rule and money doesn’t seem like a tough mystery to crack. — Schooley (@Rschooley) July 24, 2018 This presidency fell off the truck. — Schooley (@Rschooley) July 24, 2018 When I was growing up, saying that a bargain ‘fell off a truck’ still implied that it might be a cheap counterfeit, passed off on someone too eager for a good deal to examine closely. The Trump Crime Cartel seems to have mistaken The Godfather for …

In a backdrop of white supremacists distancing themselves from Jason Kessler's efforts to organize a Unite the Right II rally, Kessler, withdraws demand for new rally permit in Charlottesville. https://t.co/B9CRkT1KEw — Joanna Mendelson (@jo_mendelson) July 24, 2018 … On Tuesday, Kessler shocked even his own lawyers by withdrawing his request that a federal judge order the city to grant him a permit for a “Unite the Right 2” rally for the weekend of Aug. 11. But after the hearing, one of his attorneys, James Kolenich, told reporters that Kessler could …

Shiny-Faced Authoritarians Open Thread: Judge Kavanaugh, Amid A Hail of Brooks Brothers Wingtips

In Activist Judges!, Open Thread, Proud to Be A Democrat, Repubs in Disarray! by Anne Laurie

My @nytimes op-ed: Judge Kavanaugh was involved in some of the most politically charged moments of our recent history. Republicans must live up to the bipartisan standard of transparency set by then-Sen Sessions and me, and demand to see his FULL record. https://t.co/xbPqgJOQjS — Sen. Patrick Leahy (@SenatorLeahy) July 23, 2018 The ever-sensitive weathervanes at Politico: Partisan tensions over records on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh boiled over on Tuesday, as Democrats insisted on access to all communications from his five years in the George W. Bush White House while …

The President’s Speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention Live Stream

The President is scheduled to speak to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the US National Convention in a few minutes. Here is the live feed. Traditionally the remarks to this convention would be non-partisan, or non-partisanish, as well as a veteran focused policy speech. The President does have a political rally scheduled for tonight, so the question is going to be how much he can stay on the prepared remarks in his address to the VFW. Given the President’s approach to such things, anything is possible. Open thread!

Eye of the Beholder

In Assholes, Open Thread, Politics, Republican Stupidity by Betty Cracker

I remember seeing an old Twilight Zone episode as a kid that’s stuck with me all these years. It’s the one where a woman who is considered attractive by American beauty standards in the second half of the 20th century is thought hideously deformed on Planet Pigface. The moral of the story is that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. I thought of that story when I saw this Fox & Friends clip about a wingnut woman’s incognito safari to a rally hosted by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for …

Sometimes I think it’s going to be really hard to explain this era to people in the future and then I think, oh please let it be really hard to explain. I hope it makes no sense. — Jon Lovett (@jonlovett) July 23, 2018   Now we just have the Media Village Idiots, doing their best to make news Silly (even Stupid) all year ’round. New from latest Manafort hearing: Govt. said explicitly that banker Stephen Calk knew Manafort submitted a fraudulent loan application but approved it anyway because he wanted a Trump job — Rachel Weiner (@rachelweinerwp) July 23, 2018 Does Putin have kompromat on Trump? It is WAY worse than that. Working on Ipad Mobile Site Issue

In Open Thread, Site Maintenance by Alain the site fixer

Folks, I’m hopefully getting the iPad issue solved with the help of the good folks who make the mobile site plug-in, so please bear with me a bit longer. To top things off, I hurt my back almost two weeks ago and am using what little time I can spend sitting at my computer taking care of must-do’s. Luckily I had some time open up so I hope to have a solution later today, though it may end up being tomorrow. That said, I’m trying to solve a number of …
