  1. I do not understand how a literal pile of garbage was elected POTUS in 2016. We went from Obama to this?

  3. @ruemara: Didn’t all these Likudniks hate Obama? I am so old that I remember this Dermer person bad mouthing Obama in interviews and the only one to push back was Laura Trevelyan of BBC America, Whory Woodruff, of the NewsHour, just keep nodding her head. This was during the Iran treaty talks.

Trump asked intelligence chiefs to push back against FBI collusion probe after Comey revealed its existence

President Trump asked two of the nation’s top intelligence officials in March to help him push back against an FBI investigation into possible coordination between his campaign and the Russian government, according to current and former officials.

Trump made separate appeals to the director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, and to Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, urging them to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election.

Coats and Rogers refused to comply with the requests, which they both deemed to be inappropriate, according to two current and two former officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private communications with the president.

in other words, Trump pressured lntel community to fabricate narrative to shut down FBI investigation and obstruct justice

.@greta reports that Comey plans to consult Mueller regarding what he can say in his open testimony before the Senate Intel Cmte.

Anyone got their conspiracy hats on today?

  9. Somewhat on topic:
Neville Chamberlain gets such a shaft. He wasn’t as naive as conservatives like to claim. He was buying time for Britain so prepare for eventual war. They weren’t ready. In addition, war was incredibly unpopular at the time.

It’s so easy to simultaneously play archair historian AND general. Poor Neville didn’t have a crystal ball.

  10. So I finally saw the entire video of Melania slapping Cheeto’s hand away on the arrival carpet in Israel today…

Goodness…I think I became so enthralled and frankly enchanted by the Obamas’ obvious affection for one another, that to see that Melania, just can’t seem to even hide some of her seeming contempt even when she knows the public is watching…

I can’t imagine or even recall when PBO and MO every showed anything like that and hell, they’ve been married a long time…so of course they have to get angry at one another, but it never seemed to spill over like this…

Who knows, maybe Melania was just trying to keep Cheeto focused…but it’s not the first time, she’s seemed to not be feeling her husband…

Almost made me feel bad for her, but then I recalled…meh I don’t like her or her husband… so whatever…

  11. “promote the possibility of lasting peach”

I would bet – I HOPE! – that was an auto correct thing.
But some goddamned intern SHOULD HAVE PROOFREAD THE THING!
Holy crap. Remember when Bush had to ralph on, who was it, the Japanese Prime Minister to embarrass us? Those were the good old days.

So three more revelations from the Deep State Tonight and we can call it a day?

  15. @lamh36: To be fair, my wife is mostly down on PDA. Holding hands is okay sometimes. It’s just how she was raised. Melania could be something similar.

But then, you’d think Trump would have learned better by now. Or that Melania would know to not push him away while there are cameras rolling.

  17. Somebody on MSNBC tonight was sort of excusing Trump because he was exhausted. Participation trophy.

  18. Indeed, Anne Laurie, you have the etymology of the term correct. In fact, the character of “Peachum” in The Beggar’s Opera – a fence who employs an army of beggars on the streets of London – was so named to tip the audience off to that fact that he would, indeed, “peach” on anyone who threatened his authoriteh in the criminal underworld.

Why yes, I was a theater scholar once upon a time, now that you mention it…

ETA: A revival of The Beggar’s Opera might have to have a peach-colored pustulant playing the part of Peachum. Just to make it more topical ‘n’ shit. Aaand…someone got there before me! This darned crowd!

  19. @Citizen_X:

    Oh, good. That’ll fix things.

Cut off from those government paychecks, I wonder how those people will make ends meet.

I mean, its not like their stories are worth anything….Oh.

  20. A quick query of Mr. Google suggests that “peach” actually comes from “impeach” which means “to accuse” or question a person’s character. (And yes, it’s used to mean “inform on” – I don’t know history, but Mr. Google informed me that James Joyce made it semi-famous, and I remember Heinlein used it, and not by a criminal – by a youngish innocent, though he may have been corrupted by his spacefaring uncle who taught him space ship lingo.)
